Tokugawa Tadanaga, the second son of Tokugawa Tadahide, the 2nd General of the Tokugawa Government was confined to Takasaki castle for his misconducts, and killed himself in1633. His gravestone remains in Tori-machi, 2.3 meters in height and composed of five stones. It is surrounded by a stone fence, and the symbol of three mallow leaves representing the Tokugawa family is engraved on it. He was pardoned by the 42nd General 43 years after his death, but his grave was left enchained in deference to the government and was called the "Chained Mausoleum".
